Go Paintballing in the Winter

Paintballing in the winter can be more fun than any other season because you're less likely to feel the paintball stings since you wear more winter layers. One location where you can paintball in the chillier months is the Outdoor Xtreme Linglestown in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, about a 35-minute drive from York. This venue has 14 unique outdoor fields spanning 39 acres and multiple paintballing options that you can choose from, which include:

  • Walk-ins: Join other players who come and play that day.
  • Paintball private parties: Go paintballing on the weekdays when the location isn't open to the public, or have the course to yourself for a certain amount of time on the weekends.
  • Low-impact paintball: A less intense version with smaller paintball guns, but this option is currently only for private parties.

Purchase tickets for paintballing online and sign the waiver electronically to save time when you arrive at the establishment. Outdoor Xtreme Linglestown only requires you to make reservations if you have your paintball equipment.

Hours: Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. all year

Address: 1 Iru Lane, Harrisburg

Spend Time Ice Skating at the York Ice Arena

Bring friends or your children to ice skate at the York Ice Arena. This is a fun opportunity to exercise and stay indoors, although it'll still be chilly inside, so it's best to wear something warm. Admission and skate rental prices can vary based on what day you go skating and your age. You can host a celebration at the rink if you have a private event, such as a winter birthday party. Contact the skating rink to learn more about how you can host an event here.

Additionally, if you need to learn how to skate, take this winter to improve your skills. The ice arena offers skate lessons to enroll yourself or your child in this season.

  • Weekday afternoons: Monday and Friday from noon to 1:30 p.m.
  • Evenings: Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
  • Weekend afternoons: Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Enjoy Skiing and Snowboarding at Roundtop Mountain Resort

This season, enjoy skiing and snowboarding at Roundtop Mountain Resort in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, a 25-minute drive from the city. There are plenty of areas to go skiing at this resort. For terrain parks, there are four locations:

  • Recruit: This terrain is located in the middle of the mountain.
  • Fife & Drum Park: This park is the largest on the resort's mountain. It has the most challenging rails and substantial jumps for those with more advanced skills.

  • J-Bar Park: The J-Bar park has more minor features, making it more approachable for less advanced skill levels.
  • Bunker Hill: Bunker Hill can vary in skill range based on the rails and jumps you choose to take at this park.

Snow tubing is another popular family-friendly activity at this resort. The resort has ten large tube lanes, and you don't have to worry about carrying your tube back up the hill because you can take the Magic Carpet lift. For families with younger children, the resort offers kiddie tubing. The Magic Carpet lift isn't available in this area, but parents and kids can walk the tube back up the hill. Roundtop Mountain Resort encourages parents not to ride the pipes in the kiddie area because they're designed for children.

Additionally, while you're here, this resort has a paintball course open year-round for you to enjoy a game or two with friends. The system is by appointment on Fridays, but on Saturdays and Sundays, it's available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Hours: Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Address: 925 Roundtop Road, Lewisberry

Go Cross-Country Skiing at Gifford Pinchot State Park

Have an adventure this winter and go cross-country skiing at Gifford Pinchot State Park in Lewisberry. This state park provides you with a fun place to ski throughout the park. You can cross-country ski when the park has enough snow to cover the ground adequately. When the weather cooperates, and there's enough snow on the ground, the best areas where you can access the park's trails are by the Conewago Day Use Area or from the campground parking lot.

You'll know you're on the right trail because the designated cross-country areas have biking signs and include parts of other state park trails, like Lakeside, Alpine, Oak, and Gravel. Additionally, if you want to participate in this activity, the park requires you to bring your equipment as no rental places are available.

Hours: Daily from 8 a.m. to sunset.

Address: 2200 Rosstown Road, Lewisberry,
